Introduction

Venues are increasingly under pressure to improve environmental performance from government, funders, artists, staff and audiences. Add to this the rising costs of energy. Everyone wants to do the right thing, and reduce costs too, but operating under extreme financial and time constraints is the day-to-day reality. What can a venue actually do to make a difference?

Course outline

This one day course will introduce ways in which cultural venues have successfully reduced emissions and costs, and will enable you to consider your relationships with stakeholders including staff, artists, suppliers, touring producers and funders.

The course will be led by Julie's Bicycle, who will draw on their extensive research and expertise in this field to share best practice and a range of practical tools and resources.

• Know how to measure the environmental impacts of your venue
• Be equipped with recommended approaches and top tips
• Know how best to communicate your actions to audiences, funders, staff and other stakeholders

Julie’s Bicycle is a charity making sustainability intrinsic to the business, art and ethics of the creative industries. Founded by the music industry in 2007, Julie's Bicycle has worked with over 1,000 organisations across the music, theatre, dance, visual arts, museums and literature sectors in the UK and internationally, to understand and reduce their environmental impacts.
