Olivier Award Winner Lesley Manville To Present ABTT & SMA Awards

The Association of British Theatre Technicians and the Stage Management Association have announced that 2014 Olivier Award-winning actress Lesley Manville will be attending and presenting their joint awards at this year's ABTT Theatre Show. The ceremony takes place at the close of the first day of the event, which commences at the Old Truman Brewery in London's Brick Lane next Wednesday 11th June.

Manville began her distinguished career on stage in the 1972 West End musical I and Albert. In the 1980s, she appeared in the films Dance with a Stranger (1985), directed by Mike Newell and Sammy and Rosie Get Laid (1987), directed by Stephen Frears. She has frequently collaborated with director Mike Leigh, twice being named British Actress of the Year at the London Film Critics Circle Awards for her performances in his films All or Nothing and Another Year. For the latter, she also received a BAFTA Award nomination. At the National Theatre, her work includes His Dark Materials (2005), The Alchemist (2006) and her Olivier nominated role in Mike Leigh’s Grief (2011).

Lesley recently won Best Actress at the 2014 Olivier Awards for Ghosts, and her graceful acceptance speech was noted for comments drawing international attention to the quality of UK stage management, and in particular her Ghosts stage management team: “We had a stage management team to die for and those things are very, very important.?

The ABTT and SMA said in a statement that they were looking forward to welcoming Miss Manville to the ceremony, and to celebrating once again the fantastic range of talent and expertise amongst UK stage management and technical theatre practitioners. The presentation will take place in Corbet Place, Ely’s Yard adjacent to The Truman Brewery, Brick Lane.
